On the 10th December, an opening conference on the theme “Ecosystem services mapping and assessment of heathland and schrubs ecosystems in Bulgaria (outside NATURA 2000)” was held at SOHO, 4 Iskyr Str., 1000 Sofia.
The conference was opened by Mrs. Cveta Dimitrova, CEO of Epsilon Bulgaria OOD, and partner in the project responsible for the dissemination activities. The conference started with project presentation by assoc. Prof. Rosen Tsonev. He presented the project activities, what has been performed until now, what species have been found and their significance for Bulgaria. Assoc. Prof. Valentin Bogoev has presented the results of the field works. He explained which fields of the country has been covered, which species prevails and what results have already been done and what is expected to be done. After these presentations many questions aroused by the public and all of them has been discussed.
There were Norwegian representatives from the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) – Graciela Rusch and Vegan Bakkestuen, attending the conference. They presented the Institute’s research activities and services. There were a discussion on the similarities and differences between the methods of works in Bulgaria and Norway. The exchange of experience was of special importance for both countries.
Representatives of different kind of organizations (decision makers, government authorities, universities, NGOs, private companies etc.) took part in the event.
